Description
D. R. YOUNG ASSOCIATES (in association with T. J. REAGAN, INC.) spearheaded the California Academy of Sciences' effort to create a temporary downtown home for its priceless collection of 18 million specimens. The transformation of a former retail warehouse into an aquarium, research center and storage facility for their vast collection of specimens presented many challenges. In the end, the project’s 217,000 sf and 7-story concrete structure was modified, strengthened and upgraded to successfully meet the client's unique requirements. The temporary home opened to the public in the Summer of 2004.
